Clinical Counselors have a belief system about how to best help others. We focus on the wellness model of mental health. Counselors believe that problems are developmental in nature and that an awareness of human growth and life-span development issues is a necessary part of helping others. The counselor’s goal is to empower others to independently resolve their own problems in the future. A counselor emphasizes prevention, education and recognition of personal assets as ways of accomplishing this goal. Clinical counselors are unlike other mental health professionals in that we do not prescribe a medical model focusing on pathology. Rather that “curing” mental illness, counselors promote health within a holistic framework
As a Christian Counselor, there are added benefits for my counselees. A Christian Counselor has a worldview that integrates core Biblical principles to form a unified and meaningful response to the challenges and opportunities of life. A Christian Counselor understands that the Bible provides the best answers to life’s most important questions and only by living in light of God’s design can a person find emotional stability and personal fulfillment..
